What is the HKMEC?
Hong Kong Model Engineering Club was established in the late 1950¡¦s and started with about 10 members. Its aim is to bring together hobby enthusiasts for exchange of information and to promote the sport. In November 6, 1969, our Club formally registered with Hong Kong Government and the name was changed to Hong Kong Model Engineering Club Limited. The Hong Kong Model Engineering Club (HKMEC) Limited is the first radio controlled model aircraft organization incorporated in Hong Kong.
During our years of existence, we stand to be responsible for all aspects of model flying in Hong Kong. HKMEC operates International Model Aviation Centre, which contains the only airfield for radio controlled aircraft granted by the Hong Kong Government for public usage. HKMEC promotes and protects model flying in Hong Kong and undertakes to represent all model fliers at the highest level. This includes negotiation with our Government departments, international governing bodies such as the FAI and CIAM, and a wide variety of aviation, sports and recreational bodies. By maintaining close contact with the authorities we maintain the model flyer's status by achieving recognition and self regulation.
HKMEC is affiliated with Hong Kong Aviation Club (HKAC), the legal representative of Fédération Aéronautique International (FAI) of Hong Kong. HKMEC is appointed by HKAC as the Delegate to the FAI Aeromodelling Commission (CIAM) for Hong Kong.

Our Membership
HKMEC membership is open to public. Membership brings many benefits, including the usage of the only officially licensed aero model flying field in Hong Kong, and 3rd party liability insurance of up to HK$5 million while operating at our own flying field.
Our members comes from all walks of lives. We are fortunate to have the most representative individuals in the hobby as our members amongst the aero modeling community in Hong Kong.

Our Airfield
HKMEC possess and operates the International Model Aviation Centre (IMAC), which contains the only officially licensed aero model flying field in Hong Kong. Through gruesome negotiations with our Government, finally in the year 2004 we are granted a piece of land to fly. At a place where land prices is amongst the highest in the world, this means a lot of support by our Government to our hobby.
The IMAC of HKMEC is the main airfield field in operation. This beautiful 35,000 square meter site features flying facilities for all forms of aeromodeling. Just a piece of vacant land could not make an airfield. Up till today we have spent over HK$3 million to fabricate it, put in a 20 meters X 200 meters concrete runway amongst other facilities and still construction is never ending for additional facilities that we are putting in, in hopes that one day our airfield would become a World Class aero model flying facility to host international aero model event an a place that aero modelers could enjoy and be proud with.
HKMEC full members are entitled to utilize the flying facilities at the IMAC at no charge.
